Class Action Law Suit claims eCW did not maintain medical record integrity, audit logs inaccurately

US court room

A $999M Class Action lawsuit has been filed by a deceased cancer patient's estate against EHR vendor, eClinicalWorks. The lawsuit attests that medical history was not displayed accurately in progress notes, and therefore the patient could not determine the first time he reported cancer symptoms. The Class Action lawsuit incorporates eCW's failure to meet certification criteria from DOJ's false claims act lawsuit 6 months ago, in which eCW settled for $155M. The faulty software periodically displayed incorrect medical information in the right chart panel of the patient screen, displayed multiple patients’ information concurrently, and failed to accurately display medical history on progress notes. Additionally, eCW audit logs did not accurately record user actions in some cases. eCW has compromised care by not maintaining the integrity of patient medical records.
